As he serenades his unnamed love interest (in a fantastic mixture of English and Spanish), his voice flourishes with a lushness only Jacksonville, Florida could provide; making for an earth-shaking R&B hit. Love is in the air this summer and, thanks to Chris Knite’s latest, it’ll remain that way for the rest of 2019. Singlehandedly, he’ll have us all “Ready For Love”.

Just when you’d thought every nugget of gold and every rock of diamond had been robbed from the gorgeous continent of Africa, a gem juts from the earth. It glows with the colorful hues of Afro-beat, and glistens with melodies that those native to the motherland will irresistibly feel in their souls. That jewel is Thandiwe Love’s “Good Life”; and through its lustrous prism of sounds, you’ll come to know that the wealth in Africa is far from low. For, there are still mountains of riches in their arts and culture. Thandiwe shows this with twenty-four tracks of enchanting dance music. Albeit, a handful of these records sport modern-trap sensibilities; most of them pump with the Worldly, four-to-the-floor rhythm that the motherland is known for. Raw, stomping kicks and energetic percussions keep this project pumping with the lifeblood of African music; a lifeblood that is further vivified by the melodious vocals Thandiwe splices into it. The lead single, “Loving You” is a quintessential example of such performance; manifested by a club-rocking trap beat and astounding, autotune harmonies. An inflection, with which Thandiwe uniquely excels. All in all, “Good Life” is a powerful embrace of international pop music— mixing World and Afro-beat brilliance with auto-tune and trap magnificence. Out of twenty-four tracks, you won’t skip a single one. In fact, you’ll be pining for the next song from Africa’s rising star.

This summer is going to be exciting! For the most part, we will have 1NE FAMILY to thank; and their torrid, new single, “Kill 4 Me”. Composed by their on-board producer, Lowell, this danceable and infectious record brings out the ultimate best of the hip-pop trio. The celestial harmonies of 1NE FAMILY’s two, primary vocalists, Young Drumma and Cory Hill, find their way gracefully about “Kill 4 Me”, igniting this bonfire of energy that’ll perfectly suit your next beach bash. Undeniably, this talent; this innate affinity for rhythm, tropical melody, and groove, derive from their combined Latin backgrounds. Each of these star-destined, Floridian artists are Hispanic, and have spent years trying to discover the ideal blend between Hip-Hop, Pop, and the Latin musicality that flows through their veins.  Inarguably, we have been blessed with a rich lineage of female, R&B talent. From the 90s/early 2000 smashes of the late, legend Aaliyah; to the eclectic slow jams of Janet Jackson, and celestial climb of Beyonce; every generation has had that songstress who completely captivates our hearts. Now, it seems the current generation will be blessed with their own. A Queen of Hearts, laying in the middle of the deck, just waiting to be shuffled to the top. That is Leanna Love; and if our words aren’t enough to convince you of her radiant potential, “Chillin” certainly will. Having flown from her nest in Chicago, to settle down in Arizona, this Midwestern songbird comes with her latest, modern-R&B bop, in aim to shake the game. A vibrant melody; contained by trap percussions and slamming 808s, creates a club-ready bed for “Chillin”. One on which Leanna’s mystical vocals can peacefully lay. The Chicago-born, Arizona-residing singer/songwriter utterly erupts across this record, writhing through harmonies and power vocals with peerless grace. A grace only comparable to the greats mentioned before; and that is precisely why “Chillin”, as well as any succeeding banger she plans to release, will soon have Leanna Love standing right beside them.

This is precisely what we have been waiting for. Since Summer Walker’s fiery onset in 2018, ignited by her chart-topping “Girls Need Love” record; the lot of us have waited with bated breaths for someone to offer a rendition. Their own take on the smoldering smash. Now, we may finally have it; lifted from the lungs of the young, North Carolina crooner, Abryon. With an awe-striking command over melody and harmony, this Southern singer aims to remind us that “Girls Need Love Too”. A sultry music video, and autotune-driven remix, are his main means of doing so. As he passes between various scenes with two particular women, the Tarheel vocalist unhinges a bit more of his amorous soul. He confides in them his desire to be anything and everything they could ask for; ultimately giving us everything we could ask for in a Summer Walker remix: pleas full of passion that’ll feel everlasting.

Love is in the air this Springtime. It is certainly light enough for “There For You” to float around: an amorous, trap ballad by the upcoming talent, Justin Smith. Clocking in at nearly three minutes exactly, “There For You” is as romantically moving as a 2019 banger can get. “I know my name is on the map!” After dropping such a climatic single, Owen Mc Grory could not be more correct. His heavy, danceable track “Army” is capable of making insane waves across the United Kingdom, and European continent. That is because this nearly three minute single blends two of the most indomitable genres known to the world: Hip-Hop and EDM. Its instrumental is a grand adventure of dance music, pushing a four-to-the-floor rhythm whilst whipping a club-grooving bassline. Mc Grory’s performance, however, is all bars. He accelerates through verses that harken towards his determination and shining ambition to thrive with his music. “Army” is a flavorful embodiment of the Irish artist’s potential. Not only does it highlight the emcee as a promising powerhouse in his home country, but it likewise opens him up to being an impactful, international star.

A poignant piano progression, moved by melancholic chops, jump-starts Lil Buez “The Promise”. Although, a succession of trap drums does slam into the mix, “The Promise” maintains a tragic ambiance. This air is only fulfilled by the cold breeze of Lil Buez’s auto-tune. The Haitian-born, melodic rapper dives into the depths of his soul on this slow-burning anthem. It takes no more than two minutes and twenty seconds for Lil Buez to completely engulf us in the mistrust, betrayal and living hell of West Palm Beach, Florida. And he does so without breaking a sweat. In a similar vein to Kodak Black and the late XXXtentacion — both stars of The Sunshine State — Lil Buez is a natural at putting his pain on a page. Set a microphone in front of him, and you are bound to feel every word he lays. “The Promise” is a melodious introduction to three other singles Lil Buez plans to drop; as well as an album still in production. After this tranquil, impassioned anthem, we’ll all be waiting with bated breath for the Floridian talent’s next release.

Dripping in radio-ready melody, sprinkled with autotune and a Zone 6 inflection, is “Candy Lady”, the latest single from Atlanta, Georgia’s Leiffy Luciano. Over a sweetly dreamy trap production by Mondo, our DeKalb County resident proffers melodies and metaphors geared towards candy, and every woman who’s flavored just like it. Not a bar is wasted on “Candy Lady”. Leiffy Luciano cleverly ties each one to our favorite, convenient store snacks. He powers through an 808-driven, club-craving chorus with an infectious appreciation for his “Candy Lady”. This two-minute and thirty-second track is as catchy as it is creative. Not only does it feature an addictive bounce, topped by sugary, autotuned highs; but it maintains a fun, unorthodox theme for the duration of its play. If you were a fan of D4L’s king-sized hit, “Laffy Taffy”; then you’ll have a sweettooth for Leiffy Luciano’s “Candy Lady”. One that pressing play is certain to satisfy.

Some people travel so much, they become an amalgamation of every place they visit. They journey to a new region and easily assimilate into that culture, amazingly making it their own. East Coast rapper, Ray Reaves is one of those people. After a recent move to Toronto, Canada (likewise attaining permanent residence), the chameleon artist offers us “The Only One”; a passionate bop that is more Toronto than your favorite Toronto act. At the very least, it comes dangerously close. “The Only One” is teeming with melody. In crooning to a special someone, Ray Reaves bares the dint of his melodious soul. Certainly, the track upholds a Hip-Hop bounce: colorful synths backed by pattering trap drums. A verse from the emcee even channels his East Coast heritage: raw with lyrical aggression. However, the atmosphere on “The Only One” is insanely alt-R&B. The same alt-R&B forwarded by the stars of OVO Sound. With this record, Ray Reaves adds his own flavor to the sound of his newfound home. What comes of that is an astounding, radio-hungry banger. Give “The Only One” a play, and you too will be counting down the days until Ray Reaves is Canada’s next heralded star.

On what was Hip-Hop founded? Funk. The early architects of this powerful genre used funk rhythms and samples as the baseline for their rhymes; and ever since, the two art forms have upheld the closest relationship. So close, that Hip-Hop artist of today still harken back to the danceable genre and honor it with their own, fresh creations. For instance, Owen Mc Grory, and his soulful “OHH BABY”. The Soundcloud single is an infectious party-starter; boosted by iridescent melodies and a radio-ready groove. The bounce of “OHH BABY” is ridden perfectly by Mc Grory’s rhymes. The Irishman rocks the pockets of his record’s old-school drums with a river-running flow. When an airy synth slides into the mix, signaling the chorus, our London-based talent launches into a series of energetic, funk-heavy chants. “OHH BABY” has a bounce that no audience can evade; and Owen Mc Grory honors this nostalgic beat with skills no Hip-Hop purist can ignore. He has been possessed by the spirit of Funk; and with it, he’ll be rocking parties all year long.
