Are we living a dream or reality? The latest effort by LIV3 FR33, a Los Angeles brand spearheaded by producer-artist, NIU Kno, blurs that line with excellence. For “Life, Is But A Dream”, a compilation album outfitted with nine, lucid tracks, the artist(s) gives the themes of sleep, dreaming, and afterlife, sonic prevalence. Its features lunge from Fatlip, 777Kamikaze and Kay Franklin to Mary Dee, Korryn Gaines and NIU Kno himself, with each one of these artists delivering an idiosyncratic twist to the overall concept of the project. Samples are lush and plentiful; drums frolic in the fields of both trap and boom-bap; and the bars on “Life...” are beyond bewildering. Spin joints such as “Sleepwalking”, “Sunshine”, “Virtual Insanity”, or even the penultimate record “Walk Str8”, and the reverie of life will equivalently reveal itself to you. For “Life, Is But A Dream” is an unavoidable epiphany that LIV3 FR33 flawlessly inspires.

When you carve through all of the hustle and bustle, the speed of Time Square, and business booming down Wall Street, you’ll come to learn that New York City is a party realm at heart. The City That Never Sleeps becomes an oasis of clubs, house parties, and nightlife when the sun finally falls; and upcoming artist, BYND, fully embodies that spirit every time it comes. For, his recent release, “Personv EP”, is six-tracks of riotous, party-packed energy, fitting of the city he calls his own. Bouncing between Miami and New York, has given this “Surf-Rap” star an appetite for creating house-party bangers; all of which, illuminate totally on “Personv EP”. In 15 minutes, BYND unleashes room-shakers, such as “Selfie Luv”, “Ski Masquerade” and “S’pill”, stuffed between three other, titanic records that can equally turn up your venue. Albeit, the East Coast artist forwards a lackadaisical, “stoner”-esque flow, he delivers it with spirited, rowdy resolve. This gives each track on “Personv EP” an edge ideal for live performance; wherein BYND has the power to give his audience the time of their life. Through the speakers of a concert, and on the floor of your local club or function, is where this project will hit the hardest; and lead BYND to being the soundtrack of every New York night to come.

Embedded deeply in the history of Hip Hop is the DJ. Further embedded in the history of DJs, are the few, talented disc-jockeys who likewise rocked the mic. From DJ Hollywood, to DJ Paul, and the iconic DJ Quik, there’s a strong lineage of emcee/DJs rooted in this culture. One that a particular, Maryland creative refuses to disappoint. Surfing on our airwaves, with an impressive tidal of DMV trap music, is Baltimore’s own, DJ Waterzz. After years of DJing, the multi-talented musician is making a return to the art he first loved; giving us a storm of bangers and bars with “Sea - EP”. “Sea - EP” is four tracks of turn-up-worthy trap music; energized by a pack of diverse beats, and DJ Waterzz’s own versatile flows. Seamlessly, the rapper dives from the bubbly, CashMoney AP-produced “Popular”, into the devilish “Uh Huh”. He backstrokes briefly through the rapid-fire track, “Jumped Off”, before arriving on the modern-trap shore of “No Numbers”. This package makes for a concise journey into DJ Waterzz’s abilities as a rapper; showcasing not only his incredible ear for beats, but likewise a knack for destroying them. Ultimately, DJ Waterzz has been reunited with his first love, rapping; and by the end of “Sea - EP” you’ll be dying to see where next their relationship goes.

The state of Texas has always maintained a pivotal seat on the altar of Hip Hop. From historical acts such as UGK, Scarface, Trae the Truth and DJ Screw, to the Travis Scotts, Sauce Walkas and Tay-Ks of our modern day, the Lonestar State has remained seething with talent. Today, a new face is appearing amid that throng; and where the previous ones have highlighted cities such as Houston and Dallas, this lyrical newcomer is looking to put a different region on the map. He goes by the name Jgar, and is proudly representing San Marco, Texas (the Tr36ix) through his latest, self-titled EP. “JGAR” comes at you with five, solid tracks of new-age, Southern Hip-Hop. It forgoes the heaviness and darkness of those aforementioned, Texan artists, in exchange for lightness and relaxation. Jgar is not overbearing on this project. His lyricism, delivery, features and beat selection all combine to create this chilled-out, smoldering environment. One thats perfect for your Saturday night, basement rotation. Put simply, “JGAR” is slow-paced, smoke-friendly trap music at its finest; with enough potential to give its creator a buzz across the Tr36ix, and open the Hip-Hop world’s eyes to what San Marco can provide.

For most of us, summer is idyllic. The weather’s amazing, beaches are blazing, and love is undoubtedly in the air. However, for a particular trio of talented musicians, summer is damnation in disguise; where no amount of weather, nor scenery, could ever remedy the love they’ve lost.

Made up of singer, Meg Moon (New Orleans) ; rapper, Flares (Houston) ; and producer, Nathan Synth (Fort Worth), the trio have released their collab-tape, “B.O.M.B”, an exhibition of heartbreak, loaded with counsel and caution we should all heed in pursuit of summertime love. Our Louisiana songstress bears the dint of her soul on this record; chronicling her pain on tracks such as “Mania” and “Ain’t Home” in a surge of tender, relatable R&B inflections. Moon takes a stand on the emotional cut, “Over”, in exemplary fashion, putting herself beyond her heartbreaker. She, engulfed by the sensual, piano-laced production of Nathan Synth, makes the move to end the tumultuous relationship that’s plagued her. As convinced as she is, Flares, the male lead on the project, won’t let up. With sharp lyrics, and a Wale-esque flow, he acts as the counterpart to Moon’s character on tracks such as “Anybody”, “Summer Rain”, and “Understanding”, providing the alternative perspective of her love interest, and giving the project a unique, multi-dimensional dynamic. The title track “B.O.M.B” features the wordsmith telling his own poignant parable, matching the pain Moon felt on so many records prior. Listeners will find themselves submerged in a full-circle concept album that addresses both sides of a failing relationship. On the ten-track “B.O.M.B”, Nathan Synth sets the stage with well-crafted, amorous beats; while Meg Moon and Flares tell the most heart-turning love story this summer may ever know.
