Just when you’d thought every nugget of gold and every rock of diamond had been robbed from the gorgeous continent of Africa, a gem juts from the earth. It glows with the colorful hues of Afro-beat, and glistens with melodies that those native to the motherland will irresistibly feel in their souls. That jewel is Thandiwe Love’s “Good Life”; and through its lustrous prism of sounds, you’ll come to know that the wealth in Africa is far from low. For, there are still mountains of riches in their arts and culture. Thandiwe shows this with twenty-four tracks of enchanting dance music. Albeit, a handful of these records sport modern-trap sensibilities; most of them pump with the Worldly, four-to-the-floor rhythm that the motherland is known for. Raw, stomping kicks and energetic percussions keep this project pumping with the lifeblood of African music; a lifeblood that is further vivified by the melodious vocals Thandiwe splices into it. The lead single, “Loving You” is a quintessential example of such performance; manifested by a club-rocking trap beat and astounding, autotune harmonies. An inflection, with which Thandiwe uniquely excels. All in all, “Good Life” is a powerful embrace of international pop music— mixing World and Afro-beat brilliance with auto-tune and trap magnificence. Out of twenty-four tracks, you won’t skip a single one. In fact, you’ll be pining for the next song from Africa’s rising star.

Your summer needed this! A vibrant, bass-bouncing anthem that will light your next house party on fire. With three minutes of slick rap, and alternative trap production, that is precisely what BT The Artist provides. “Hunny”— his amorous May hit— is the theme song to every romance that has blossomed this season; and through its capacious sound, will be a banger for many summers to come. BT needs no assistance on this record, vying instead to totally enliven the track on his own. Between bars about pursuing a potential significant other, whilst lyrically coasting this danceable beat, the Massachusetts rapper likewise calls attention to his Hispanic background. Beautifully, he spins references to ‘Bachata’, ‘Pasada’ and ‘Salsa’—extremely meaningful dances in Hispanic culture— into one of his verses, backed by a party-rocking chant that frequents his chorus. This style of songwriting truly attributes to the rhythm of the song, gifting “Hunny” a pleasurable and dance-ready aura few, independent songs can acquire. BT The Artist’s latest amazement could easily scale the Pop charts; and if the right hands were behind him, pushing along the way, this East Coast emcee could easily be mainstream. With that success, he’ll be giving the game exactly what it needs: supreme lyricism over spirited instrumentals. Press play, and make your summer better than before with “Hunny”.

“Riding through the city, I move slowly now...” when Legendz Gc utters this bar, in the midst of a bouncy, electronic melody, it resonates amazingly. Likewise, when Drake’s co-signed talent, Chromazz, adds her featured spin to this hook, its catchiness grows tenfold; making this latest drop, “Ride” downright irresistible. The record is threaded with a tropical, dancehall beat and hip-rolling 808s. Stitching those threads together, are the stunning performances of Legendz Gc and Chromazz themselves. Mercilessly, they ravage the instrumental; spitting barrages of bars at the drop of a verse. Where Legendz Gc asserts his dominance over the Montreal Hip-Hop seen with a charismatic verse; Chromazz proves to wield one of the most infectious deliveries and flows in Toronto. Together, they give The North another summer banger. One that— through its incredible Caribbean beat, bar-heavy verses, and contagious, sing-song chorus— will have every club in Canada bouncing in sync.

In a day where upcoming artists tend to focus on one craft, Melxdie is a beautiful anomaly. As heart-warming and soul-stirring as her singing is, her talent does not halt at vocals. She is equally alluring as an actress; and with the drop of visuals for her latest single, 'GIRLS R BETTER', the Canadian angel proves she is destined for super-stardom. For, the visual strikes less like a music video, and more like a movie; illuminated by a collection of scenes that tell the story of a female-ran body shop (in which Melxdie plays an employee) fronting for a diamond heist. Jamaican artist, Mavado, joins in on the visual (as well as the song), playing the role of the shop's owner. Certainly, their chemistry on screen is astounding; however, when their power collides on the song, the pair creates an even greater work of art.'GIRLS R BETTER' is a rhythmic pop song, styled by rushing drums and colors of climatic synths. Melxdie brings the sweetness of pop music with her breath-taking delivery on the record; whilst Mavado brings the melodic swagger of his native dancehall. What results is a radio-ready, Billboard-deadly hit; teeming with the prospect of launching the songstress straight to the top. Through her singing and on-screen performance, Melxdie proves beyond a reasonable doubt that 'GIRLS R BETTER'; and she is only the right pair of ears and eyes away from international acclaim.

One of Louisiana’s shining lights, First Class Rossy, has proven with each and every release precisely how valuable he is to New Orleans. As far as his latest single, “Doctor” goes, the rapper shows zero symptoms of falling off. Recorded in his First Class Studios (a nexus of New Orleans Hip-Hop), “Doctor” is a lusciously danceable R&B track; supported by an ambient melody, ghostly adlibs, and invigorating percussions. The Dogsled Music Group signee pulls all of these powerful elements together through an autotuned croon that slips and slides between “In My Feelings”-esque vocal chops and samples. Ostensibly, New Orleans Bounce percolates through the DNA of this record. Its inherent rhythm and groove, chaperoned by First Class Rossy’s chilling delivery and flow, has “Doctor” destined for clubs in all 17 wards. The fact that this radiant single was released late last year, and gained the traction that it has, only further highlights the potential of this artist. With whatever he has planned for 2019, his halo as Louisiana’s golden child will glow even brighter than before.

Nothing in this world compares to giving back. For artists and creatives, this extends beyond financial charity and philanthropy. It is committing art to a particular people, positive purpose, or message. Okay, perhaps the first sentence was a lie. There is something better than giving back: seeing a sixteen year old girl do so with a marvelous video, and undeniable gift of rap. That is what Atlanta’s V3locity has done with her new, energetic banger, “Wild Out”. As she mentions herself (and what can be seen in the music video), “Wild Out” is an anthem for the kids. It is a turn-up song that, through V3locity’s saucy lyrics, danceable flow, and high-spirited delivery, gives kids everywhere the freedom to let loose. By the looks of the music video it must certainly be a success. Countless scenes show V3locity, as well as other teens alongside her, “wilding out” to her latest release. They dance freely through the rooms and halls of their high-school as if finally able to express themselves. That is the magic of “Wild Out”. That is what V3locity gives back: freedom and expression to the fellow kids in her community. With a radio-ready record like this at only sixteen? The sky is the limit for the talented V3locity; and we cannot imagine what cloud she’ll land on next.

Autotuned and astounding, New Jersey’s Rich Pesos drops “Make Her Dance”. Assisted by Equisite, the melodies are plentiful on this East Coast single. A bouncy, colorful chord progression, made of airy synths, rocks through the mix on “Make Her Dance”. It is moved by 808s, and trap-cracking drums. Rich Pesos and Esquisite are at their most contagious on the 3-minute track. They move through sing-song verses with ease, forwarding a catchy, radio-ready banger that the club and party-scene can equally embrace. “Make Her Dance” is the third single of Rich Pesos’s for 2019. With the way he is racing, this New Jersey artist is incapable of falling; pumping out smash after smash that you are incapable of resisting.

A viral, dance trend is the only thing standing between Brandnew Swayy and mainstream stardom. When he drops the music video and challenge to his latest record, “Just Jig”, he’ll shatter the glass ceiling and immediately rocket into fame. He already has the artistic talent. “Just Jig”, by its lonesome, is a contagious, trap banger, outfitted with a spirited delivery, dazzling flow, and party-starting rhythm. From the groove, to the structure of the record itself, “Just Jig” is impeccably written. Everything that makes a catchy, modern-trap smash can be found between the prance of colorful, milky pianos; bouncing 808s; and compelling percussion. Likewise, the performance of Brandnew Swayy himself is unignorable. The life he brings to this beat is actually what takes it over the top; solidifying the Palm Beach County, FL talent as a hitmaker indeed. We cannot wait for someone to “Just Jig” to this dance-ready record. Brandnew Swayy will dominate 2019.

Riding a nonstop 808, the flossy Jasmine L’Chelle is making a move for the Queen of Rap crown. It comes in the form of “Centerfold”: a banging, Los Angeles anthem, celebrating this Hip-Hop darling’s inextinguishable ambition. You can see it in her eyes as they flutter at the camera in the beginning of the single’s seductive music video. She is teeming with talent; evident by the way she can flaunt her glamour and curves, whilst slinging flows and bars like you have never heard. Her two verses are as lethal as they are alluring; carrying dangerous doses of uniqueness and originality. Between tantalizing her audience with hypnotic twirls and crawls, the Californian rapper offers rhyme after rhyme regarding her greatness, lavish lifestyle, and even a dream she had about Drake. Her inflection is truly what makes this record the banger that it is. Over the club-ready, trap production of “Centerfold”; Jasmine L’Chelle whips her own, distinct delivery, keeping the momentum of the song at a pleasurable constant. She never has to do too much. Her entrancing, braggadocious bars; novel flow; and irresistible charm, are all she will ever require. With that triple threat, she is destined for the throne.
