Ypsilanti, MI rap artist H6Z100 drops his latest mixtape project, “Came From Money 2” that features a special guest appearance from Grand Rapids, MI’s own TheHomieRedd, among other heavy-hitters. On the 2nd installment of his mixtape series, H6Z100 lays out 4 exclusive new-age bangers that all pack a powerful punch and offers up a variety of styles from the on-the-verge rapper. The bouncy opener, “Foreign” launches the project with an air of motivation setting the tone for “CFM2”. “Made A Promise” is the oath of a young hustler on a trajectory to pull himself out of the streets. Then listen as “Talk My Shit” unloads a high energy trap anthem that tells prolific real life stories with heavy conscious undertones. The outro track, “Head High” is light and smooth. Just like that, it is here. After previously blessing us with their spectacular “Flux Capacitor” drop, Houston’s answer to The Wu-Tang Clan and early Pro Era, The Band of The Hawk, have finally released their “Kangol” project. Completely produced by original BOHUP member, Noah Archangel, and mostly upheld by Yeaux Majesty’s idiosyncratic rhymes, “Kangol” is this Texas collective’s 2019 endowment to the world of lo-fi, underground Hip-Hop. A world wherein they are slowly, but surely, becoming kings. The coronation occurs through a bevy of rap-heavy, boom-bap jams. Between sample-driven instrumentals, skits, and the lyrical ventures of featured BOHUP artists, Yeaux Majesty and Noah Archangel string together an impressively cohesive offering. Bangers, such as “Downtown Friday Nights”, “Bedrock”, “‘19 Mentality”, “Golden Child”, and “All U Need” flow seamlessly down this river of Golden Age musicality. If not for the apparent tracklist, “Kangol” could very much be presented as one, elongated piece of music; and that quality alone makes it superior to every other project released alongside it. In the space and history of lyrical, archaic, underground Hip-Hop, this project could very well become a classic. And The Band of The Hawk, the South’s answer to the legendary, old-school rap crews we hardly go a day without giving praise.

If New Jersey did not have a lyrical prince ready to ascend to their Hip-Hop throne before, they do now. He goes by the name of J-Carter; and with every stroke of his pen this year, the Garden State emcee has proven well-ready for the crown. J-Carter deserves much praise for his grind and indomitable work-ethic on his latest body of work as he gets loaded up to drop 38 new tracks for his new album, “Take Hip-Hop Back”.  The beauty of “Take Hip-Hop Back” is that it perfectly encapsulates two generations; two sounds of the New Jersey lifestyle. On one plane, it embodies the lyrical aggression, depth and bravado of the Redmans, Joe Buddens, and Treachs who built upon the foundation for East Coast Hip-Hop. On the other hand, it warmly embraces the sonics of today: boasting 808s, malicious, synth-based melodies, and jarring trap drums. This puts the nine-track opus on the ideal axis of a 2019 Hip-Hop album. It is, essentially, an onslaught of lyrical bangers; that in J-Carter’s own words, “...the people will have no choice but to hear...”.

As it seems, the warmer it gets outside, the hotter SmokeTheGreat’s bravado burns. So much so, that months ahead of the summertime, he has already released the most confident, stunt-worthy track of the sunny season, “BITCHMETOO”. Featuring guests E.WILLS, and NETWERC, “BITCHMETOO” is about as braggadocious as a Midwest banger can get. Seeing as most of the music in this region is largely focused on the extreme violence plaguing Middle America’s streets, this Flint, Michigan release is actually a handsome deviation. As each of these Goat Money Music rappers lyrically clown certain women’s boyfriends, while simultaneously flaunting their riches, influence, and boss statuses, they bring the Midwest mindset back to where it should be: on chasing a bag. Boisterous anthems like “BITCHMETOO”, through their radiating haughtiness, are precisely what light fires of ambition and the hunger for similar success within us. For, no one wants to be the one “talking like he’s got it, knowing he don’t” as perfectly mentioned in the second verse. Speaking of verses, each spitter on this thunderous, trap hit uniquely gives their all. As radically as their deliveries may differ, no one in Goat Money slacks with their pen. Their booming bars and FliCity flows will be the exact reason that, before summer has even arrived, “BITCHMETOO” is heating up your attitude and aux.

Its subjects and atmosphere are teeming with the darkness of DC; while its rhythm, delivery and flow are something no true ATLien can ignore. Through fusing those two styles, 2 LIT has cultivated an invincible sound. One that will rocket them, and “Circle Too Small” straight to the club-rocking top.

Philly Blocks is as slick as can be on his fresh, Kentucky anthem, “Days Of Our Lives”. Packed with an accompanying music video, which features the rapper fancying a typical, Louisville night, this new-age trap smash is beyond impressive. The Bluegrass State emcee brings his best wordplay, delivery and metaphors to this nearly three-minute opus. Stark 808s boom across a malevolent melody, with scattering hihats and trap drums, as Philly Blocks raps about his upbringing in those Southern streets. What juts out about “Days Of Our Lives” is how lyrical the record is, and how vivid its visual grows to be. Both elements of this hardbody effort get better and better as the runtime lunges on. Between scenes of the talented spitter frequenting corner stores, blocks, and his fellow Team 563 members, Philly Blocks delivers a lyrical performance synonymous to the greats of the Golden Era. He is precise with every bar he lays in the booth; and that precision not only enhances “Days Of Our Lives”, but likewise makes the Kentucky rapper a treasure in the current era of Hip-Hop.

If you were unaware of the city of Opelousas’s existence before, P.A.T. will be damned if you are not enlightened by the end of this record. He, alongside iconic emcee, KXNG Crooked, land on “Soul 4 Real” with the intention of leaving a mark. One that puts this phenomenal lyricist, as well as his Louisiana city, undoubtedly on the map. At least, that is the impression you’ll receive listening to P.A.T. rip through verses on the new-age boom-bap track. He is lyrically relentless on “Soul 4 Real”; spitting bars that hold both introspective and conscious weight. KXNG Crooked takes this angle a step further with his own 16, ridiculing emcees who spend more time rapping about their riches than speaking a heartfelt, beneficial message to their fans. When placed over such a futuristic, electronic melody, pulsating 808s, and dusty Golden Era drums, these verses purely convey that Hip-Hop has indeed been resurrected; and it is taking an evolved, sonic form. “Soul 4 Real” is that illuminating. It shows how easily conscious rap and new-age Hip-Hop can fuse to create an anthemic hit any lover of the culture can stand behind. All thanks to the artistic capacity of P.A.T. With little over three minutes, he proves that he is one of Louisiana’s most gilded upcomers; and Opelousas is clearly a goldmine.

Go into MDAATH’s 2018 long-player, “MXD, Pt. II” expecting another typical, trap-rap album, you are in for a rude awakening. Do not be fooled by the clips of “Goodfellas” and “Blow” that commence the album; because the moment this Ohio rapper utters his first word, and that tranquil beat drops, your entire world will be flipped upside down. You will be suckerpunched by the intro, “Grade A”; and this onslaught will carry on for the next thirty-five minutes you are with him. MDAATH harbors his own, unorthodox way of creating a modern rap album. One that can not be easily compared to the artists and sounds that rival him. Granted, this Cleveland talent does dive into the commercial trap aesthetic with the speaker-slamming “Mexico” (feat. Donnell Kane), “Remain”, “Welcome 2 The Dusk”, and “Like That”; these jams are essential to highlighting the individuality of every other piece on the project. They draw your focus to the incredible boom-bap, lyricism and flow of “Ogz”, “Take Flight”, and “Get Up”; making you appreciate MDAATH’s noteworthy potential. With his unique subject matter, crossing topics of the streets, yearn for wealth, and praise of God; alongside his shining use of rhythm and melody, many of these tracks strike as songs only MDAATH could create. He absolutely has his own handle of the art of rap; and with the versatility displayed on this radiant “MXD, Pt. II”, he is only a handshake away from a mainstream break.
