Bakersfield, CA rap trio Hoodlum Squad delivers their latest single “What U Talkin Bout” from their recently-released debut album, Season, via Dogsled Music.

The group is currently made up of three active members, including Tommy Brown a.k.a "Teflon Hoodlum,” Derrick Gage a.k.a “Field Boy P. Hoodlum" and Marcus Crompton a.k.a “Mack 11 Hoodlum."

On the smooth, laid-back track, each member showcases their lyrical versatility over production that’s infused with street-rap and trap-soul with elements of traditional R&B.

You can find “What U Talkin Bout” on the Squad’s latest album, Season, that features 11 exclusive tracks that embody a dope mix of old-school Hip-Hop and new-school street.

The album title was inspired by the fact that it’s playable in every season. Whether it’s Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter, the sound and vibe will always match.

The name also symbolizes that it’s now the group’s season and they’re more than ready to take over the game.

If New Jersey did not have a lyrical prince ready to ascend to their Hip-Hop throne before, they do now. He goes by the name of J-Carter; and with every stroke of his pen this year, the Garden State emcee has proven well-ready for the crown. J-Carter deserves much praise for his grind and indomitable work-ethic on his latest body of work as he gets loaded up to drop 38 new tracks for his new album, “Take Hip-Hop Back”.  The beauty of “Take Hip-Hop Back” is that it perfectly encapsulates two generations; two sounds of the New Jersey lifestyle. On one plane, it embodies the lyrical aggression, depth and bravado of the Redmans, Joe Buddens, and Treachs who built upon the foundation for East Coast Hip-Hop. On the other hand, it warmly embraces the sonics of today: boasting 808s, malicious, synth-based melodies, and jarring trap drums. This puts the nine-track opus on the ideal axis of a 2019 Hip-Hop album. It is, essentially, an onslaught of lyrical bangers; that in J-Carter’s own words, “...the people will have no choice but to hear...”.

Asaru just made a horror movie. With the drop of one, swift single, “Open Season”, he has killed the current rap game; and we could do little but watch. Nightmarish pianos, surrounded by crackling vinyl, slide the New York-born’s latest into your speakers. After thirteen seconds of this, rumbling 808s creep into the mix; eventually shoved into a ghostly acapella. Here, Asaru draws his lyrical butcher-knife. Through the initial stab of reckless, trap drums, the Tampa spitter explodes into a rage of rhymes. For the next three minutes, it seems as though he never falls back. Every line is a swift cut; every bar is a clever punch. He bloodies the current rap game by serving both generations: “new” and “old”, with a banger they can equally embrace. Whether you’re a fan of the latest of trap’s greatest, or lyrical ability of our greatest decades ago, Asaru shows us it is “Open Season”. And he will kill until he’s on the top.
The single is now available across all digital platforms.

Philly Blocks is as slick as can be on his fresh, Kentucky anthem, “Days Of Our Lives”. Packed with an accompanying music video, which features the rapper fancying a typical, Louisville night, this new-age trap smash is beyond impressive. The Bluegrass State emcee brings his best wordplay, delivery and metaphors to this nearly three-minute opus. Stark 808s boom across a malevolent melody, with scattering hihats and trap drums, as Philly Blocks raps about his upbringing in those Southern streets. What juts out about “Days Of Our Lives” is how lyrical the record is, and how vivid its visual grows to be. Both elements of this hardbody effort get better and better as the runtime lunges on. Between scenes of the talented spitter frequenting corner stores, blocks, and his fellow Team 563 members, Philly Blocks delivers a lyrical performance synonymous to the greats of the Golden Era. He is precise with every bar he lays in the booth; and that precision not only enhances “Days Of Our Lives”, but likewise makes the Kentucky rapper a treasure in the current era of Hip-Hop.

Motor Mouth has perfectly placed nostalgia between electronic synths and boom-bap beats. With three minutes and twenty seconds on the clock, this Hawaii-born, former United States Army soldier casts a light on every Hip-Hop legend whose inspired him thus far. That light refracts into “Back In The Day” featuring Marissa Delmonico. The producer, Darren Vegas contributed instrumental brilliance to this record; guiding it in slowly with a progression of atmospheric synths, frosted by Marissa Delmonico’s enchanting adlibs. Motor Mouth enters just as the muddy bass does, rolling along with the loop of Golden Era drums to a story he spits about his Hip-Hop upbringing. From being “on the courts playing ball with the homies blaring Biggie Smalls” to Eminem blowing his mind with every release, our Los Angeles-based artist displays a vivid love for the culture. This love is so pure and gargantuan that only Marissa’s angelic voice can emulate it. She belts a poppy, yet soulful hook for “Back In The Day”; surging with an identical passion to the track’s creator. On this record, Motor Mouth is golden. You may hear a song full of shoutouts and believe paying homage is the reason this Seattle native excels. That is not the case. It is his ability to tell the story of his upbringing , and be himself entirely, that pays this artform the greatest respect. Continue to honor that; and this emcee will be paid back even sooner.

After having released their first installment in the “Koinda” series a little over a month ago, the powergroup Koindanomics has returned with “Koinda Vol. 2”. Contrary to their last effort, “Koinda Vol. 2” proffers a total of fifteen tracks with a revised cast of stars. Verily, this project sees the recurrence of the first’s phenomenal artists, such as P5YCHONOMIXXX, BLAKFIST, CG Que, and Brian Nightingale; however, it likewise bolsters new, illuminating talent. JSoul delivers a soulful, boom-bap chop for the album’s intro; Marrani is moving with a Afro-beat tirade, “Olisa”; Esco and Ace Burns light up the party with a terrific, trap banger, “Someone Do It For Me”; and BYNO delivers a cinematic, R&B jam through “Once Bitten Twice Shy”. The album is an amalgam; yet, soul is as present as ever before. “Koinda Vol. 2.” is abundant with well-crafted, mesmerizing music. With so many distinct, emotive flavors pulled in from the world around, it paves an identical path of success to its predecessor: uniting everyone through the objective of economic empowerment. That is the goal of Koindanomics; and with a project as appealing as this, their message is rings even louder across the globe.

Undeniably Genuine’s new song “Wood Grain Grippin” is a real slab slammer! It features Jaymee, and for five minutes straight, the trio breathe absolute fire on the track. Aside from that, a dope, screwed-up chorus gives the song exactly what it needs to be a Southern hit! No doubt, UNG know how to put on for Shreveport, Louisiana. As well as every slab rider in the Dirty South. “Wood Grain Grippin” keeps a smooth, funky instrumental with 808s that’ll knock your trunk! UNG and Jaymee cruise it like true Southern stars. Whatever you’re doing, drop this very second. Grab your keys, hop in your whip, and take the ride of your life to “Wood Grain Grippin”!

Time is money; and when it comes down to it, the international, economic organization, Koindamonics’, 45-minute group LP, “Koinda Vol. 1” is worth more than you can imagine. Especially when their goal is to bring financial education to communities that need it the most. That makes “Koinda Vol. 1” priceless. Yet, if there had to be a value affixed to the music of this massive mixtape, it would be nothing less than pure gold. Composed by Angi Maxx, BLAKFIST, Brian Nightengale, Brooklyn Lou, CG, P5yckOnOmixXx, and Saturn; “Koinda Vol. 1” is rich in realness and originality. With songs ranging from Neo-Soul, Golden Era Hip-Hop, Abstract Hip-Hop, R&B, Worldly, and Trap, this album truly has something for everybody. It tethers all people and communities through a lovely batch of diverse, yet outstanding sounds; and that alone brings the collective closer to their altruistic goal. Koindanomics proves that music is still the most powerful medium for spreading a message; and upon playing their project, “Koinda Vol. 1”, you’ll hear there’s loud and clear.

How ironic: to coin your project, “Fireproof”, and have it be one of the most volcanic debuts of the new year. That alone testifies to the cleverness of New York emcee, Azazel; yet, if in need of further convincing, his talent in the booth will do the job. Over beats produced by Retnik Beats, Lucid Sounds, 808Melo, Jxke, and Shakespere, among others; Azazel wears many faces. And he breathes fire from the mouth of each and every one of them as the album evolves. A fully-automatic flow ricochets throughout the intro, “Armageddon”, afore quelling into calm, yet jaw-dropping conscious hip-hop on “See You In Hell”. His Slim Shady-esque imagery and storytelling blazes atop “The FuckList”; with that rapid-fire inflection creating a quintessential closer out of the last track, “Crossroads”. In between this madness, on the other, equally impressive 9 tracks, is solid, diabolical Hip-Hop. To the bone, Azazel is a true lyricist. Throughout the project, he pens each and every word with purpose; manifesting fire-and-brimstone bars that utterly melt the mic. “Fireproof” is a prime example of the Golden Era attitude and appreciation for Rap, meeting its modern, 808-driven production. It is an extraordinary debut by the Brooklyn rapper; yet, do not let its name deceive you. You’re one play-button click away from your headphones erupting into flames.

As much as Hollywood yearns to convince us, through its myriad, mainstream celebrities and entertainment, life is far from utopic. On the contrary, for most of us, it is plagued with darkness, disaster and dire tribulation. No better is this true trio magnified, than on Pennsylvanian rapper, J. Asadi’s, latest project, “Lazarus Experiment”. On this seven-track opus, the New Castle native wears his heart on his sleeve; stitched by haunting, hip-hop production and painful lyricism. Much of the rapper’s subject matter revolves around his personal plights and predicaments. His intro track, “The Invitation” maps his entire life story; one full of abuse, betrayal and suffering. Yet, the magical thing about this artist is his unstoppable willpower. You can see it in the titles of his subsequent tracks (“Never Fall”, “Keep Rollin”, and “Sky Is The Limit”), J. Asadi is not one to fall victim to his struggles. The greater message on this album is, instead of losing yourself to your painful past, use it as fuel for grinding towards a fortunate future. For that’s exactly what this emcee is determined to do. He may have been down and out in the past, but by the slam of trap drums, cataclysmic melody, and strong, lyrical delivery, J. Asadi proves to be Lazarus; resurrected, reborn and renewed, with a commitment to greatness unlike any you’ve heard before.
