No matter what production she’s singing over, Faith Walker’s vocals stick out like a diamond in the ruff. Sharp and effulgent, these harmonies will spin celestially between your headphones, with the final effect being your “Head In The Clouds”. With that being said, these Los Angeles-born/Toronto-raised songstress couldn’t have titled her EP better.



Embarking on this album destines you for an cottony, R&B joyride. Not only does Faith prove magical with her singing; but her command of the early-2000 aesthetic of R&B is equally top notch. She glides soulfully, wafting through production that forwards heavy-hitting drums, and guitar-tinged, chord-waving instrumentation. These elements give “Head In The Clouds” a musical purity and authenticity that is impossible to ignore. Soar into songs such as the title track, as well as “Love By Now”, “Catch My Heart” (feat. Orion Tukal), and “Enough Of Your Love” and the beauty of this album will illuminate; deeming Faith Walker a beacon for the indie R&B circuit. For, if one thing can be concluded from listening to “Head In The Clouds”, it is that this amorous woman is destined for astronomical stardom.

Jason Ivy is an up-and-coming, unsigned musical artist based in Chicago, whose freshman EP project, CØMPLIMENTS (released 2/09/19), has earned over 300,000 streams on Spotify and Soundcloud, as well as Top 10 R&B album placements on both amazon and iTunes. Ivy has been a self-starter and entrepreneur in the Chicago music scene for the last two years since returning home from college at the University of Pennsylvania where he studied Neuroscience and Linguistics.

Each icon represents one of the six songs from the project. In order, they are: Hate (the spiteful message and angered posture of the astronaut), Foreign (the astronaut itself), Higher (the rocket), Chlorophyll (the sunflowers), Ivy (the ivy leaves), and Pyre (the woman with the burning heart).

The concept behind both the EP and the cover art is that these are all separate concepts that function as a whole, all mostly contained within this jar. Each of the songs addresses the state of the jar — being emotionally empty or filled — which doubles as a graphic metaphor for the state of the narrator’s own emotions.

Having flown from her nest in Chicago, to settle down in Arizona, this Midwestern songbird comes with her latest, modern-R&B bop, in aim to shake the game. A vibrant melody; contained by trap percussions and slamming 808s, creates a club-ready bed for “Chillin”. One on which Leanna’s mystical vocals can peacefully lay. The Chicago-born, Arizona-residing singer/songwriter utterly erupts across this record, writhing through harmonies and power vocals with peerless grace. Some people travel so much, they become an amalgamation of every place they visit. They journey to a new region and easily assimilate into that culture, amazingly making it their own. East Coast rapper, Ray Reaves is one of those people. After a recent move to Toronto, Canada (likewise attaining permanent residence), the chameleon artist offers us “The Only One”; a passionate bop that is more Toronto than your favorite Toronto act. At the very least, it comes dangerously close. “The Only One” is teeming with melody. In crooning to a special someone, Ray Reaves bares the dint of his melodious soul. Certainly, the track upholds a Hip-Hop bounce: colorful synths backed by pattering trap drums. A verse from the emcee even channels his East Coast heritage: raw with lyrical aggression. However, the atmosphere on “The Only One” is insanely alt-R&B. The same alt-R&B forwarded by the stars of OVO Sound. With this record, Ray Reaves adds his own flavor to the sound of his newfound home. What comes of that is an astounding, radio-hungry banger. Give “The Only One” a play, and you too will be counting down the days until Ray Reaves is Canada’s next heralded star.

It is extremely rare to see veterans link up with up-and-comers; and even rarer that a radio-ready banger comes of that fateful encounter.
